How do the cognitive abilities of someone with Alzheimer’s Disease Progress?

When first diagnosed,

Mild Impairment: still able to work & function

Mild Decline: Family begins to notice; memory & concentration problems

Moderate Decline: Forgetfulness of recent events; difficulty with complex tasks (meal planning, paying bills); may become withdrawn or depressed

Moderately Severe Decline:  Unable to recall own address, phone, the day, date or season; may dress inappropriately; still recognizes family members

Severe Decline:  Personality Changes; may become suspicious or paranoid; requires assistance with dressing, bathing & toileting; may wander or become lost

Very Severe Decline:  Loses ability to carry on a conversation to respond to people or things.  May be hospice appropriate.
